Directors Guild Awards Reveal Documentary Nominees for 2010

We know the Directors Guild of America already announced the feature film nominees from 2010 for their annual awards show. Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), Tom Hooper (The King's Speech) and David O. Russell (The Fighter) all received well deserved first-time nominations, along with multi-nominated colleagues David Fincher (The Social Network) and Christopher Nolan (Inception). But now the DGA has announced their nominations for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentaries in 2010, and considering some of the stellar work in that arena this year, the nominations probably weren't easily chosen. See the full list below!

The DGA's nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentaries in 2010:

» Lixin Fan for Last Train Home
» Charles Ferguson for Inside Job
» Alex Gibney for Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer
» Davis Guggenheim for Waiting for Superman
» Tim Hetherington & Sebastian Junger for Restrepo

Once again Banksy's Exit Through the Gift Shop has been overlooked in this category, likely because of the uncertainty surrounding its documentary status. Of course, the DGA nominations are more in line with the Producers Guild nominations for documentary films, with the two organizations both recognizing more conventional docs like Inside Job, Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer and Waiting for Superman. However, the Writers Guild noms differ almost entirely with Inside Job being the only shared nominee that all of the guilds nominated. Does that mean Inside Job is a shoe-in to win the Oscar for Best Doc? We'll find out soon enough. Thoughts?
