First Official Photos for 'Mr. Popper's Penguins' with Jim Carrey
t was less than a year ago that it was first reported that a Mr. Popper's Penguins adaptation was in the works, and its only taken Fox nine months to sort out a filmmaker and get a cast, get it entirely shot and on track for an August 12th release this year. So here we are, showing the first official photos courtesy of USA Today. As expected, they're a bunch of shots of Jim Carrey as Mr. Popper goofing off with some penguins. C'mon, we all knew this was going to be an easy sell, they're so cute! Plus with memories of the hilarious Ace Ventura: Pet Detective coming to mind, I'll happily say this is an adaptation I'm actually looking forward to!
Referring to the penguins' work ethic on set, Carrey states: "I found them completely unprofessional, but they're on-screen gold, so what can you do?" Yep - "they're like puppies times 10." The story, written by Richard and Florence Atwater in 1938, has been changed to move Mr. Popper to present-day New York. He sends a "fan letter" to an explorer because he regrets never visiting the North or South poles and eventually ends up receiving six penguins, which he must take care of. At the helm is experienced family-film director Mark Waters, of Mean Girls, Just Like Heaven, Spiderwick Chronicles and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. So far this looks quite fun, we'll let you know when they release a trailer. What do you guys think of these?
