Now this is an interesting choice! Heat Vision reports that Legendary Pictures has chosen breakout British director Gareth Edwards to direct their upcoming Godzilla movie that has been teased before, like with fire-breathing shirts at Comic-Con. Warner Bros will co-produce, co-finance and distribute per its deal with Legendary. Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing along with Dan Lin, Roy Lee, and Brian Rogers. The article explains that execs took an interest in him after being impressed by his work on the low-budget sci-fi flick Monsters, which we raved about too. He'll also "develop" with a new writer. A big congrats to Gareth!
Edwards is a very interesting choice to helm a high profile, presumably high budget monster movie project like this, especially for his second feature film. But then again, he is a filmmaker who has a lot of talent and is on the verge of breaking out even bigger, so let him take on something big like this and see what happens. Either way, this is bound to turn out better than Roland Emmerich's Godzilla from 1998, that's for sure. If you want a better perspective on Edwards, you can watch our video interview with him here or listen to our Golden Briefcase episode that he was on. Legendary picked up rights from Japan's Toho Co. March last year.
