Official Trailer for Im Sang-soo's 'The Housemaid' Remake
"Ferociously tawdry." My favorite bleak critics quote from this trailer. IFC Films has debuted the official US trailer on Apple for Im Sang-soo's The Housemaid, his remake of Kim Ki-young's 1960 South Korean film of the same name. This is basically a very sexual dramatic thriller involving a rich man having an affair with his housemaid while his wife is pregnant and the rather crazy consequences of that. I saw this in Cannes last year and enjoyed it, it's a twisted and riveting film that goes to some very odd places at the end. This trailer shows, unfortunately, most of the film, so watch out. Curious to find out how many of you guys are into this.
The Housemaid is both written and directed by award winning South Korean filmmaker Im Sang-soo, of the previous Korean films: Girls' Night Out, Tears, A Good Lawyer's Wife, The President's Last Bang and The Old Garden. It's based on Kim Ki-young's 1960 black-and-white film The Housemaid that's been described as one of the best Korean films of all time. The remake premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year and was picked up by IFC Films for US distribution. The Housemaid being released unrated in limited theaters on January 21st followed by an On Demand debut the next week. For more info visit IFC's official website.
