Back in August we heard about a new indie drama called A Late Quartet starring Ethan Hawke. The Yaron Zilberman directed film tells the story of a musical group whose members have performed together for 25 years who must adjust to one of them retiring due to Parkinson's disease. Now the rest of the cast seems to be coming together as The Playlist has learned that Philip Seymour Hoffman has just signed on to star in the film as well. In addition, apparently Christoper Walken, Catherine Keener and Imogen Poots are rumored for roles, but their involvement has not yet been confirmed. More below!
After the elder member is forced into retirement because of his disease, the quartet struggles to stay together and their egos violently collide. Though the other roles have yet to be defined, I'd be willing to bet that Walken is the elder, departing member of the quartet. Either way, this cast sounds spectacular. I'll always see anything with Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Catherine Keener is one of the best actresses working today. Directing from a script he co-wrote with Seth Grossman this will be Zilberman's feature film debut, and I'm sure we'll see this on the festival circuit in the future. Interested?
